Because You're a Woman.

Role Overview

Role:
Motion Graphics Designer
Context: Studio collaboration at Made Clear Studios
Focus: Typographic Motion, Visual Storytelling, Pacing

Overview:
Because You’re a Woman is a short documentary featuring Dr. Viv Ezzat and the BJCA, produced in collaboration with Made Clear Studios. The project focused on using restrained typographic motion to support the film’s narrative while maintaining clarity, sensitivity, and emotional tone.

The Challenge:
The subject matter required a careful balance — delivering information clearly without distracting from the voices and experiences at the centre of the film. The challenge was to integrate motion graphics that enhanced understanding and pacing while remaining unobtrusive and respectful.

Concept & Approach:
The motion design was informed by contemporary infographic-led storytelling, where typography is used as a narrative tool rather than decoration. Treatments were developed in response to the rhythm and structure of the existing edit, ensuring typography reinforced key moments without interrupting the documentary’s flow. A neutral, considered visual language was prioritised to align with the tone of the film and allow the content to lead.

Process:

Initial storyboards explored typographic hierarchy, timing, and transition behaviour in relation to the edit. Motion tests were reviewed and refined collaboratively with the Creative Director and film team, with adjustments made to pacing and emphasis as the cut evolved. Circular Std was selected for its clarity and neutrality, supporting accessibility and maintaining consistency across the film’s motion elements.

Outcome:

The final motion graphics integrate seamlessly with the documentary, supporting narrative clarity and emotional pacing without drawing focus away from the subject matter. The result is a considered typographic system that enhances storytelling through subtle motion and precise timing.
